This is a control panel device that allows you to edit the patterns in your scroll bars. It is stable, system 6 and 7 (and probably 1) compatable, dishwasher and microwave oven safe. Although it has an init component, it uses no patches. All the init does is display a cute icon at start-up. Source code is included and mostly commented. Ok, so now you know that I didn't write this hack here. Source code is included (check out the work around for the scroll bar call-back routine).
So, you have my hack and the source code. Please don't use ugly patterns. The human interface guidlines are our only defense against anarchistic, senselessly hedodistic, uncivilized world of the other platforms.
Oh, warning, since it changes the pattern resource in your system file, the changes remain after you get tired of this hack. Don't throw it out, you might long for the days of having a simple pattern on your scroll bar.
